2024, the big debrief – A rich and encouraging year

NEWS

At the end of 2023, my books were released after ten years of work. At the beginning of 2024, I began my great return to animal activism.

What I am most proud of this year is the improvement of my books, my meeting with Catherine, and my public interventions.

Firstly, the books I released in 2023 have been significantly improved. This improvement takes my books to an even deeper dimension than they were already in. It’s essentially my discovery of Paul Bashir’s philosophy that inspired me. From this meeting of ideas came a substantial enrichment, both in terms of pages and new ideas, explanatory diagrams, and practical exercises.

Paul Bashir, whose professional philosophy of vegan education is the most advanced in the world, inspired me with an approach that is strongly focused on empowerment, empathy for animals, and a commitment to truth.

Even though I can’t hide a feeling of failure for not having achieved my goal of publishing my two books in English and Spanish during 2024, an inner joy counterbalances this admission, because the certainty of soon offering the world a book that is tremendously useful for animals fills me with a new joy. I am very happy with the new direction I was able to give to my books, especially the second one, on how to create a vegan world. It represents the complexity and depth of my thought: definitely not politically correct and focused on reaching out to others. The core values of truth and positivity, which these books will be founded upon, are so dear to me.

The second big success of 2024 is definitely my meeting with Catherine Frachisse. Catherine is an admirable woman, whose clarity of mind is matched only by the commitment she puts into what she believes is right. I can be proud to count on fate for bringing me this person through Facebook comments. I don’t believe in a completely predetermined destiny, but I do believe in our power to shape it.

Catherine is someone who fully understands the value of my work. Reading my books, especially the second one, moved her deeply. This understanding of the urgency to defend animals, combined with a philosophy of kindness, was the shock that brought us together. Since May 2024, she has been working with me to help in my mission to save animals. I can only be grateful to have her with me. She gives her all to this supreme mission. Her contribution has exceeded my expectations, and her appointment as deputy director of World Vegan Education and Vegan Education Publishing is only natural.

The most important thing to me in every person is the heart, “the will.” What I like to call the “power of will.” Some people have weak willpower, others radiate with it.

I believe I am not mistaken when I say that while Catherine may not be radiating in a thermonuclear sense, she holds within her heart a willpower capable of diverting the violence of a destiny’s accomplishment. Her impressive investment has accelerated the realization of my ideas. With her support, the English translation of the books has progressed significantly, as well as the development of World Vegan Education and Vegan Education Publishing.

Alongside this good news, in the first part of the year, my public speeches reminded me of my inner strength. After years spent in the shadows writing or working in the cold, these interventions reminded me that I could overcome my fear of public speaking. These experiences strengthened my confidence. They allowed me to directly share my ideas, and I saw that I could communicate them clearly. From February to June, I held five conferences that received encouraging feedback. These experiences, though initially nerve-wracking, proved to me that I could overcome my apprehensions and express myself with clarity and conviction.

In terms of activism, I was able to relaunch my former association, Éducation Végane, to rename it World Vegan Education. The goal was to go global, and I believe this name better conveys that idea. The association’s website was initiated. Vegan education sessions were held as planned, with the regular and modest rhythm I had envisioned: one street educational session per month.

The association was also honored to welcome an exceptional person from Valencia, Spain: Carlos Coleto. I met Carlos through Facebook invitations, and after a few discussions, we quickly built strong ties around animal defense. Carlos impressed me with his rare ability to learn, his great humility, and his exceptional determination to understand and progress. I was able to start training Carlos while continuing Catherine’s training, thanks to the creation of a document compiling key questions about veganism and vegan activism. This document, enriched by numerous exchanges between them and me, helped them refine their thinking and build a coherent and effective philosophy for defending animals. Carlos also distinguished himself by his availability and commitment. He responded positively to all the initiatives I proposed, whether creating a conference on veganism or leading solo street education sessions to improve. The year 2025 looks hopeful for Carlos, with great prospects for progress and a probable rise as the Spanish-speaking representative of World Vegan Education.

Later in the year, I had the chance to meet Sébastien Remy, with whom I believe I can count on a new person to build the vegan world of tomorrow. Sébastien is willing to become the official cameraman and editor for the major YouTube channel project I want to realize by 2026. A great hope emerges from this second partnership. I hope it lasts, as the project of creating a YouTube channel on veganism, with my ideas that I believe are innovative and important, could reach millions of people. A number that perhaps neither my books nor my conferences could ever reach.

However, I would be lying if I described 2024 as a series of successes, each more delightful than the last. Of course, light cannot exist without darkness, and not everything has been rosy. On the contrary, 2024 was the stage for many disappointments.

The biggest disappointment of the year was probably realizing that the vast majority of people did not support my projects. What kind of world do we live in when defenders of a cause do not support those who bring a fresh and life-saving breeze to a battle that is sinking?

It was a great disappointment for me to discover that most people greeted my energy with equal indifference, or worse, with a distorted understanding. Criticism quickly started pouring in, often targeting the messenger rather than the project itself, as is so often the case in such situations. In reality, no criticism was directed at my projects. All of it was aimed at me. And although there were few, perhaps this is a sign of a sick society.

I have witnessed the enduring fragility of human relationships. I have understood that everything often hangs by a thread. A thin, almost invisible thread, breakable at any moment. Misplaced egos still govern too many minds, and sensitivity did not wait for adulthood to stop existing. I have seen the importance of one of the ancient forms of hatred. This universal racism, from both the left and the right, that condemns individuals based on their ideas. It mixes sin and the sinner, excluding people on the grounds that their thoughts would disturb. Whou would do that? Perhaps not Jesus, even though I do not believe in monotheistic religions.

These experiences have strengthened my practice of Stoicism, reminding me of the importance of focusing my efforts on what I can control and letting go of the rest. If I could take away one major lesson from these failures, it is to give everything for those who recognize my value and give nothing for those who do not. Even though I will always stay positive and giving, I believe it is necessary to move away from a world overly soaked in sugar-coated sentimentality: running to convince those who do not see our value is an affront to oneself. When someone does not see your true worth or, worse, disrespects you, leaving in silence, without aggression, seems to be the best option.

On a personal level, I am very happy to have maintained almost exemplary sports discipline: I trained three times a week in weightlifting throughout the year. I also discovered the wonderful world of athletics. On Fridays, I understood why the 400 meters is called the toughest Olympic event. These overly aggressive efforts, where I thought my heart would burst from my chest, helped strengthen my body and send a positive message. The message of a vibrant and dynamic veganism, mentally strong but also physically.

I also continued to pay particular attention to my health, although improvements are still needed. My diet, with a monthly budget of 600 €, remains improvable in terms of regularity in consuming fruits and vegetables.

I won’t hide that I was not as exemplary regarding the nightlife. The health low point of 2024 remains the amount of sleep I got, which dropped to about 6 hours on average annually. This was not fun, and it probably didn’t help me respect my regenerative capacities. But it is a sacrifice I accept, for the animals. That said, there are areas of improvement in discipline to help me provide the same amount of work, or even more, while getting more sleep. Everything depends on me. My finances also suffered. I lost 33% of my net income. A significant loss, easily explained by 25 hours of work for my business and 25 hours for the animals, instead of the usual 50 hours for my business. This notable decrease was not easy to manage, but I fully accept it. It allowed me to carry out the things I did for the animals, and that is my greatest pride. My wish for 2025 will be to restore a slight predominance of lucrative work, not out of personal preference, but to restore a more comfortable standard of living, which could benefit the animals more than it would harm them in the long run.

In terms of discoveries, three figures inspired me in 2024: Paul Bashir, as previously mentioned, with his vegan philosophy based on responsibility and the call for empathy towards animals; Patrick Mouratoglou, for his teachings on resilience and confidence, applicable to vegan activism; and Nicolas Sarkozy, who, although viewed negatively by many, moved me with his philosophy of self-overcoming in the tradition of the greatest Stoic masters of Greek civilization. These encounters enriched my journey toward increasingly positive and powerful activism.

2025 promises to be a great year. With Catherine and Sébastien by my side, the pieces are falling into place on the chessboard. The sound of justice moves forward, and nothing seems able to stop it. The books Guide to Veganism and Guide to Vegan Activism, renamed for the second editions as Veganism and A Vegan World, will be published in English, Spanish, and French, thus opening the door to a global audience. The YouTube channel, which I want to develop quietly with Sébastien so that we can start the platform with a year’s worth of videos in advance, will slowly but surely come together. Millions of people could be reached, and it is a great hope that lies on the horizon. Finally, other projects will take shape, including a book about one of the most important people in the world. A person without whom all of this might not exist, the co-founder of veganism, Leslie J. Cross.

I wish everyone a wonderful 2025, and I want to remind you of the importance of our dreams to create the world we want. But dreams mean nothing without work, so I want to emphasize the necessity of work to bring about justice.

Happy New Year 2025 to all,
